Scholarship Amounts
The amount of each annual tuition grant awarded by the Antonio V. Glassberg Educational Foundation (the “Foundation”) will be individually determined by the Foundation in its sole and absolute discretion based upon a number of factors such as the applicant’s financial need, the applicant’s private school’s tuition and its ability and willingness to partially fund the applicant’s tuition, the Foundation’s financial resources, the number of qualified applications received by the Foundation, and other considerations.
Qualifying students will be eligible for consideration of renewal scholarships through the 12th grade by reapplying annually and at the Foundation’s sole and absolute discretion. The Foundation wishes to provide a maximum benefit to the students, while still serving a diverse array of students, in furtherance of the Foundation’s core tenet: empowering physically challenged young people to reach their fullest individual potential by helping to subsidize their tuition at private schools.
All decisions by the Foundation as to whether a tuition grant and any renewal thereof is awarded, the amount of each individual tuition grant and any renewal grant, and the terms and conditions applying to each individual tuition grant, shall be made in the sole and absolute discretion of the Foundation. By applying for or receiving or accepting a grant or the renewal of a grant, the grantee and the grantee’s family and guardians agree to be bound by the decisions of the Antonio V. Glassberg Educational Foundation, agree not to rely upon any expectation of receiving a grant or a renewal grant from the Foundation, and further agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Foundation and its officers and directors and persons acting on behalf of the Foundation from any and all claims, demands, actions and causes of action arising directly or indirectly out of any action(s), inaction(s) or decision(s) of the Foundation.
Conflicts of Interest
The Foundation will not provide any scholarships to or for the benefit of its disqualified persons, including its officers or directors, foundation managers, members of any Program selection committee, substantial contributors to the Foundation, family members of such persons, or any other person who is a disqualified person with respect to the Foundation within the meaning of Section 4946(a) of the Internal Revenue Code.
Selection Criteria
The Foundation expects that it will award tuition scholarships for the benefit of physically challenged students in grades K thru 12 (1) with financial need; (2) with either (a) a record of academic achievement or (b) the potential and the desire for academic achievement. There will be no limitations or restrictions in the selection procedures based upon race, religion, national or ethnic origin, or other illegally discriminatory criteria.
Selection Process
Recipients who meet the eligibility requirements will be selected based upon their needs relative to other applicants and the anticipated impact the scholarship will have on the life experiences and success of the recipient. The selection criteria may include (1) the severity and expected duration (whether or not permanent, such as limb loss) of the applicant’s physical disability; (2) the applicant’s academic potential, as may be demonstrated by his or her ability to be admitted to a private school, especially a private school of excellence; (3) substantiation of the applicant’s financial need, as may be provided by such applicant’s educational institution; and (4) additional information and documentation that may be requested by the Foundation as part of each individualized application and selection process.
Payment of Scholarships
Scholarships under the Program will not be paid directly to the student recipient or the student recipient’s parents or guardians. Rather, the Foundation will pay such scholarships directly to the educational institution that the student recipient attends.
